It’s very easy to become settled in what you know and exist with its warm, fuzzy embrace. Even if it means that the results you are achieving out of it are not good, or just down right crap.
I yesterday forced myself to bust out of old habits when working on a CGI job. The mainstay software that I have been using for many years just does not have the chop I need. Sure, it can do what I need it to do, well even, but the unreliability of the results now only costs time but my sanity. And this is despite having two infinitely better packages sitting on my machine!
So I busted out, decided to use one of the other ones and the results have been joyous! And while the package I used to pump out the images is what I consider defunct (I am learning Maya), it showed me that it’s time to move on and really get on with learning something else that is just better.
Old dogs should learn new tricks. Those that don’t, I suddenly realise, just get old.
